The day started with a trip up to Gatlinburg for breakfast @ Flapjacks…
Afterwards, we walked a few doors down the blook and visited the Hollywood Star Cars Museum…
After a drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we arrived in Bryson City, North Carolina which is a small town in the Great Smoky Mountains. Our intent was to go visit Ranay’s great, great grandfather’s grave site. Her great, great grandfather is a well known individual in the history of the mountains and the formation of the national park. His grave is clearly well visited and he has a landmark sign posted in the city which was cast in 1951. He had written several book and has had at least biography written about him.
Driving around Bryson City, we found his roadside historical marker.
Then we spotted the Swain County Historical Museum. We went looking to see if we could learn anything more about her great, great grandfather. We found one line about him on the Smoky Mountain National Park exhibit but we saw so much more…including all of his books, the biography and a DVD about him. We bought them all!
Afterwards, we started home but, just like us, we didn’t take the interstate. We took the slow, scenic ride home including Nantahala National Forest, and along the Nantahala River and Fontana Lake…
…and the Tail of the Dragon!
